Experts in Fun: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Fairmont Mayakoba Kids Club

A dedicated team makes the Fairmont Mayakoba Kids Club the most joy-filled spot in the Caribbean

It’s no secret that Fairmont Mayakoba is one of the best family-friendly resorts in Mexico. With 10 swimming pools –and a water slide!–, a soft-sand beach, and 10 dining outlets, options abound when it comes to keeping guests of all ages entertained. But it’s the resort’s delightful Kids Club that captures the hearts of its youngest guests –and it’s all thanks to a spectacular team whose main mission is fun.

Geovanni Fuentes, Assistant to the Entertainment Director, is in charge of Fairmont’s two Kids Clubs: Balam, located near the main pool and Laguna restaurant, and Coatí, named after the adorable creatures that roam Mayakoba, and located within Maykana Beach Club. We chatted with Geovanni to discover the magic behind the entertainment.

Everyone’s welcome to the Fairmont Mayakoba Kids Clubs

Every element of the Kids Clubs has been thoughtfully designed to create unforgettable moments for the resort’s youngest guests. Balam welcomes kids ages 5-11 and features a charming indoor space, outfitted in lovely, light hues where children can engage in a daily program featuring activities like creative games, craft-making sessions –like a dreamcatcher workshop–, and relaxing moments, such as storytelling or yoga sessions. Outside, they’ll find a playground with splash fountains, a climbing wall, and a ping-pong table.

Open from 9:15 AM to 4:15 PM, Balam has a family hour from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, when parents can join in the fun. Teens are welcome at Balam, too. They can chill in a welcoming lounge area packed with books, board games, and an Xbox console.

Over at Coatí, the main room is at the heart of the action when it comes to the daily programming, while the outdoor area beckons with a shallow garden pool, a sandbox, and a cozy garden with picnic tables. Coatí is also open from 9:15 AM to 4:15 PM, and welcomes parents between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

A program rooted in creativity

To keep kids engaged and inspired, the team has developed a thoughtful program based on themes. “We create themes such as Wellness, Adventure, Mexico, or Pirates,” explains Geovanni. “We even have a Maya Day, because it’s part of our culture and our guests love it.” The team is currently developing new themes, such as a famous and beloved magician and characters from childrens’ favorite movies.

Within these themes, activities are divided into categories, such as Eco-friendly, Sports, Culture, or Wellness, allowing both kids to choose what excites them and parents to know what their little ones will take part in. Piñata-making is one of the most beloved activities in the program, showcasing one of Mexico’s most renowned traditions and teaching kids the value of recycling. “We used recycled paper and cardboard, and it’s one of the most fun experiences,” says Geovanni.

Special moments: From Festive to Easter at Fairmont Mayakoba

Geovanni and the team love to get creative during the resort’s busiest and most exciting seasons: Easter, Summer, and Festive, which essentially begins in late October with Día de Muertos and ends in early January. “During Easter, we had Easter Egg Hunts, visits from the Easter Bunny, outdoor parties, and even a silent disco,” recalls Geovanni, while Summer brings events like Fourth of July and even a circus –complete with performers and outdoor games. Christmas, of course, fills the resort with magic, and the Kids Club is no exception. “Last year, we built a Christmas village on the lawn.”

A Kids Club For Creating Connections

Geovanni leads a team of six members, and he makes sure that everyone who joins it has previous experience with taking care of and entertaining children –they even receive first aid training. Aside from leading the kids along their adventures, team members also work as resort babysitters, adding an extra level of peace to parents who can trust their kids are in expert hands while they enjoy a night out, perhaps exploring Mayakoba’s spectacular culinary offerings. “The kids also love to know that their daytime guides will take care of them in the evening,” adds Geovanni.

What to know about the Fairmont Mayakoba Kids Club

Some activities in the program are complimentary, while others have a cost of $500 MXN (per activity, per child). Activities are designed for a maximum of 25 kids, so it’s always a good idea to book your kid’s spot in an activity 24 hours in advance –especially during the high season. You can do this by heading to the Kids Clubs or emailing the team at myk.kidsclub@fairmont.com.

Nestled within the private gated community of Mayakoba, just 35 minutes from Cancun International Airport, Fairmont Mayakoba is an incomparable destination for families looking to connect with nature, the community, and each other.
